Ivans Blazi

Architect, born in Barcelona in 1976. Ivan Blasi studied Architecture at and graduated from the Escola Superior d’Arquitectura de Barcelona (ETSAB) after an Erasmus year at the Delft TU School of Architecture. He worked at RPSR arquitectura and XNF Arquitectes before he cofounded the 1OOTO Arquitectura studio in 2000 (2011 Public Space Prize of the COAC–Catalan Architecture Institute). Since 2000 he has been involved in different programmes of the Fundació Mies van der Rohe in Barcelona and since 2006 in the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture.

 He has been a member of Juries at Delft University, Kingston London University, ETSAB, Biarch, Metropolis Master Program and IaaC; has lectured in Barcelona, Logroño, Ljubljana, Beirut and Moscow; edited publications such as the Coup de Dés, the Interventions catalogues and the Docomomo Journal, and moderated debates such as “Breaking New Ground”.

 Since 2005 he has been teaching at the Barcelona Architecture Centre under the leadership of Miguel Roldán and Xavier Costa, where he has focused on 20th century and Contemporary Architecture in Europe, Construction Studies and Field Studies.

 In 2009 he was elected Secretary General of Docomomo International (Documentation and COnservation of MOdern MOvement) where he was in charge of the international development of the institution; the coordination of the International Conferences – Mexico and Helsinki –; the international Archive and Register; and the publication of the Docomomo Journal. He resigned in 2013 to fully concentrate on organising the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture–Mies van der Rohe Award.

 In 2000 he began participating with the Fundació Mies van der Rohe, namely in the Mies van der Rohe Chair – with the participation of Wiel Arets, David Chipperfield, Kazuyo Sejima, Juan Herreros, La Fura dels Baus, Institut français d’Architecture, Aga Khan program and Harvard GSD among others –, with who he closely collaborated and helped organise the programme and its strategies. He was also involved in curatorship of the Interventions Programme at the Barcelona Pavilion – Kazuyo Sejima, Ryue Nishizawa, Antoni Muntadas, Ai Weiwei and Andrés Jaque –, where he was in charge of the organisation, development and control of communicationHe also participated in the organisation of the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture–Mies van der Rohe Award Exhibitions in Europe, China and Japan. His initial involvement in the Prize dates back to 2006 with the “Coup de Dés” programme which brought together different actors involved in the Prize. He coordinated the publication of the 3rd edition of these Seminars in which five Architects, five critics and two moderators – involved in different ways in the Prize – engaged in a debate on “New Ideas, New Experiences in the European Context”. He contacted with the participants to transcribe the dialogues, create new texts and coordinate the publication. In 2008 he coordinated the publication of the 4th Seminar entitled “What’s New? Searching for Clues” and in 2010 he was in charge of the co-curatorship of the 5th edition of the “Coup de Dés” programme in which not only Architects and critics but also politicians involved in local governments and related to the Prize discussed on Architecture in the Mediterranean basin (Europe, Africa and the Middle East).

 In June 2014 he began coordinating the 2015 edition of the Architecture Prize which is currently in process and will be awarded in May 2015.
